What is Spiritual Direction? Spiritual direction is an on-going relationship with a person who can give spiritual guidance and spiritual friendship. It is a time when you meet someone who can direct you to living a spiritual life everyday and to help you to know, love and follow Christ more fully. This meeting is usually an hour and once a month.
How do I choose a Spiritual Director? This should be a person who is knowledgeable in faith and living a spiritual life. This is usually a Priest, Deacon, Religious or lay person who is living a spiritual life. In choosing a Spiritual Director, you should consider the following: a person you can trust, one who directs you in prayer, one who can direct you spiritually in hard times, one who can help you discover and to accept what God is doing and asking you to do in your life. How do I find a Spiritual Director? First it is important to pray about finding a spiritual director, asking God to guide your search and to open your eyes to the possibilities available to you. This person may be found among your Church Parish, persons with whom you have shared with in small groups, Ultreyas, School of Leaders, retreat centers, religious communities. It may take some time to find the right person for you. The main objective is to remain patient, to trust God in the process while remaining focused to the direction of the Spirit in all of life.
